New York State Association of Magistrates Court Clerks, Inc.

MEMBERSHIP

Welcome to the New York State Association of Magistrates Court Clerks’ website.  We are in the process of mailing membership applications for 2010 all our present members and to any town and village courts around the state whose clerks are not presently members of our association.  In 2009 we had over 1,126  clerks who joined the association and we’re hoping for many more clerks this year.  There are approximately 2,226 (the number changes as clerks come and go) town and village Court Clerks.  Fellow clerks, we need to reach out to those 1,000+ who haven’t joined and invite them to become a part of our state association.

Membership in our organization is a positive thing for all town and village court clerks.  The first advantage of membership is receiving our wonderful publication The Docket.  This magazine is full of informative articles on many of the topics we cover in training such as TSLED, CDR’s, SORA, Fiscal Responsibility, Record Retention, Dangerous Dogs, surcharges, etc.  It contains the latest information on new laws and procedures that we need to know.  As one judge said, The Docket is filled with “news you can use.”  There are always lots of pictures of court clerks and instructors from the trainings around the state.  Let’s be honest; who doesn’t like to see a picture of themselves and/or their friends in a magazine?

In addition to the above reasons members are entitled to hold office and to vote in our elections.  We also get the earliest notification on the location of the upcoming training conferences and the information for room reservations, transportation options, etc.  This enables us to be sure of getting a room in the hotel of our choice and it gives us plenty of time to get the necessary permission and paperwork from our municipalities.  Janet Smith, The Docket editor, also includes humorous items, puzzles created by our own members and news and pictures from counties and districts around the state.  This is very much a magazine “of, by and about” our members.
